I coach

  • individuals seeking a new direction in their lives
  • small business owners looking to clarify purpose and set priorities
  • chairs and managers of third sector and public sector organisations

A fully accredited founding member of the Association for Coaching, I specialise in coaching clients who want to make changes.  Working with me, they say, gives them greater clarity about the way ahead.  They appreciate my ability to listen with attention and to create with them a safe environment in which to explore their concerns.  For those seeking a career change, I offer the Firework Career Coaching programme.  I challenge and support clients to live and work creatively, taking account of them as a whole person – body, mind and spirit.

Coaching sessions are by phone, Skype, or face-to-face in Glasgow or on the Isle of Bute.

‘Alison is a catalyst to expand the thinking process…gentle and insightful’

What is coaching exactly?

There are many styles of coach and many tools and techniques but at the heart of the process is a high quality of attentive listening which gives the client the space to discover the way forward.  The coach holds, on behalf of the person, the conviction that they have within them the solutions they are seeking.  This is not mere mumbo jumbo.  It is born of human experience going back long before the word ‘coaching’ was used.  It also reflects the fact that we are more likely to act upon our own insights than on the ‘advice’ of others!

Coaching Skills Programme

This programme works with people in befriending or support roles to enhance their skills in one-to-one encounters.  Participants learn and practise some basic coaching skills using a simple model in order to work more effectively as a trained friend.
Key learning point:  ‘It’s possible to make a difference without offering solutions
